Eco-Trash (III)

Scott Adams continues to brilliantly mock the ecological fundamentalists, illustrated in his most recent sunday comic.Eco-trash (II)

Eco-trash (II)

While the media is trying to make us believe that there is a scientific consensus on global warming, I stumbled upon these:

  • The 1992 “Statement by Atmospheric Scientists on Greenhouse Warming,” signed by 47 scientists, claims “such policy initiatives [those concerning the Earth Summit scheduled to convene in Brazil in June 1992] derive from highly uncertain scientific theories. They are based on the unsupported assumption that catastrophic global warming follows from the burning of fossil fuels and requires immediate action. We do not agree.
  • The “Heidelberg Appeal” (also from 1992), signed by over 4000 scientists including 72 Nobel Prize winners. This appeal makes no mention of climate change or any other specific environmental issue, but is essentially a plea for policy based on “scientific criteria and not on irrational preconceptions”.
  • The “Oregon Petition,” which was circulated in 1998 by physicist Frederick Seitz and contains 17,800 signatures.

The Oregon Petition states:

We urge the United States government to reject the global warming agreement that was written in Kyoto, Japan in December, 1997, and any other similar proposals. The proposed limits on greenhouse gases would harm the environment, hinder the advance of science and technology, and damage the health and welfare of mankind.

There is no convincing scientific evidence that human release of carbon dioxide, methane, or other greenhouse gasses is causing or will, in the foreseeable future, cause catastrophic heating of the Earth’s atmosphere and disruption of the Earth’s climate. Moreover, there is substantial scientific evidence that increases in atmospheric carbon dioxide produce many beneficial effects upon the natural plant and animal environments of the Earth.

And I know, Eco-fascists are going to say things like :’ they are paid by multinationals, by the oil industry’, and other mumbo jumbo. And of course, some might, but not this much. Besides, the same can be said about the scientists saying that there is global warming and that it is all our fault. They work for the ‘green’ lobby which is more powerfull these days than the “oh so dreaded multinationals”. So whether you believe it or not, just try to take these numbers into consideration next time someone claims that there is a scientific consensus on global warming. He is lying…
